Yellowstone National Park again gets 900,000 visitors in July
Yellowstone National Park saw 900,000 visitors in July, marking the third year in a row the park has seen such volume. July is typically the park’s peak visitation month. The park recorded 906,935 recreational visitors in July 2011, 957,785 in July 2010, and 900,515 in July 2009. This year is the second-highest monthly visitation level recorded since 1872, when the park first opened, according to park officials.

Does an Old EPA Fracking Study Provide Proof of Contamination?
For years the drilling industry has steadfastly insisted that there has never been a proven case in which fracking has led to contamination of drinking water. Now Environmental Working Group, an advocacy organization engaged in the debate over the safety of fracking, has unearthed a 24-year-old case study by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that unequivocally says such contamination has occurred.
Debt Deal Could Mean More Painful Cuts for Transportation
The House and Senate are getting close to voting on a deal, reached over the weekend, to raise the debt ceiling and cut spending. There’s nothing in the legislative text that says anything specifically about transportation or the Highway Trust Fund, but it’s clear that the cuts mandated in the agreement will affect all sectors. This comes after several rounds of budget cutting this spring.
